My Favorite Winter 2017/2018 Magazine Features

Danai Gurira shines as one of the cover starts for the Winter 2017 issue of Rogue Magazine. I'm a sucker for any woman who rocks a short hair and The Walking Dead and Black Panther actress doesn't disappoint in her latex, sequins, and jewels amidst bold backdrops. These photographs by Benjo Arwas are absolutely frame-worthy.

Solange Knowles covers the Jan/Feb 2017 issue of Surface Magazine. The profile highlights Knowles’s transformation from pop star to visual artist, highlighting various of the performance pieces for her 2016 album entitled A Seat at the Table. Her blonde braids, highlighted with red beads, created by the amazing Hair by Susy are a standout look. Andrew Zuckerman produced incredible portraits.

Caleb McLaughlin shines on his cover and editorial spread for the Winter 2017 issue of House of Solo Magazine. Ever since he first burst into the spotlight on Stranger Things, I've enjoyed seeing him bloom as an actor and just how well he styles on red carpets. He absolutely killed this entire spread!

In the February 2018 issue of British Vogue, Bafta-winning actress Michaela Coel dissects the challenging issue of subconscious prejudice. Her portraits by Amy Troost, shown below, took my breath away. To read the full article, click here.

Solange for Elle Magazine, March 2017

Our favorite muse, Solange Knowles, is back with another magazine cover and editorial for 2017! With unruly curls, monochromatic looks, and whimsical makeup, this shoot makes a much bolder statement then her muted looks and 70s vintage vibe for her February 2017 Interview Magazine cover story.

Stole and pants by Pleats Please Issey Mikaye. Boots by Laurence Dacade.

Jacket and trousers by Céline.

On her album, Seat at the Table: "I did want to create this juxtaposition, politically, of having these very hard, messy conversations but having them stylistically in a way that you can really hear me, and not the yelling, the rage," she ruminates. "I wanted to project in my delivery what I was not achieving at all: peace and having a certain lightness and airiness that could maybe help me get closer to having more light and airiness in my life."

Coats by Norma Kamali. Pants by Pleats Please Issey Miyake.

"There's something so special about a woman who dominates in a man's world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer. Amelia Earhart was such a dynamic force in her industry, setting multiple aviation records in her time. So it was a no-brainer for me to team up with Harper's Bazaar in honor of a woman who held her own with the big boys." —Rihanna

SOLANGE by BEYONCÉ for Interview Magazine

"It was very intentional that I sang as a woman who was very in control, a woman who could have this conversation without yelling and screaming, because I still often feel that when black women try to have these conversations, we are not portrayed as in control, emotionally intact women, capable of having the hard conversations without losing that control."

"...our relationship, by the grace of God, is the one thing that I can count on to be intact and to be solid. When I go out in the world, I know that when I come home, I'm going to find peace with him."

"It was one thing to make the record and have those reservations; it was another to finish it and actually share it. I just feel so much joy and gratitude that people have connected to it in this way. The biggest reward that I could ever get is seeing women, especially black women, talk about what this album has done, the solace it has given them."
