Canadian Tuxedo

I'm not sure who coined the term "Canadian Tuxedo". Do Canadians really often wear denim-on-denim or are the Americans just being snarky again? Either way, I [not-so-secretly] love denim-on-denim pairings. I mean, more often than not, we have seen horrifying pairings (Justin and Britney -_-) but the denim-on-denim look can be classically chic if the styling is done with minimalism in mind.

I think the trick to successfully pulling the pairing off, as so eloquently displayed in this spread by Harper's Bazaar, is a pairing of different rinses. Lighter rinse paired with a darker rinse in classic pieces and silhouettes (i.e. shirt, jeans, jacket). Whenever I wear the style, its usually a pairing of lighter denim top with a darker denim pants and accentuate with classic accent jewelry and/or strong neutrals. I'd suggest avoiding patchwork, floppy hats, purses, or anything too eccentric.  If attempting to wear the same shade of denim on top and bottom, try pairing with strong neutrals or bold accessories. Think a solid tank, statement jewelry, a red lip, classic boots, or bold outwear as seen herehere, and below.

Do you ever wear the Canadian tuxedo?
